2003 - September 2002 saw the beginning of a period of car-burning. The photographic record is not definitive, an estimated maximum of ten vehicles being missed. Up until that time there had been no more than ten, or even six, car wrecks in the whole Plymouth Great Wood (Coed Mawr) area, over more than twenty years. A pause of about a year ended suddenly on the fifth 'anniversary' of the phenomena, almost to the day. By the end of September 2007, the number had exceeded 160 (estimated 190 ±3, 29/11/07).
